I first played this game in July and replayed it a few days ago and lost my mind both times. The dialogue feels so fluid, and watching Marimaite struggle with her conflicting feelings of revulsion, self-loathing, arousal, and affection is captivating and makes warmth pool in my belly. Sitri's a wonderful character. It's fascinating how neither Marimaite nor the reader fully see into her mind, so when she acts teasing, salacious, or provocative, I don't know whether she's playing, manipulating, or being authentic. I love how she remains inscrutable, free, and unbowed throughout the story. The way she brazenly and voraciously flirts with her jailer, suggesting how good Marimaite would feel if she held her down and had her way with her, is also unbearably hot. Thank you for the wonderful art. <3

I don't usually ever comment or review thing but this story is more than good enough to warrant it. The story, characters, art, and atmosphere are all great. I'm writing this right after finishing it and can already tell I'll be thinking about this for a very long time. Both the characters have a lot of depth and I greatly enjoyed watching as their relationship change as they go through things together. I can't help but think about the events of the story, and how things will change after the ending. I hope that more visual novels will come in the future someday. Thank you for creating this!

(+3)

I wasn't expecting for this to toy with my heart or for it to encourage me to think deeply about its characters and what it would mean for them to grow, but I'm sitting here contentedly now that it did.

(+2)

God damn I loved this. Really built a wonderful atmosphere and tension, especially helped by excellent music, art (the expressions especially) and great dialogue work between our two leads.

This was pretty good, more enjoyable than I first expected, I don't know if I'm mistaken but do we have a dick

(+3)

I'm honestly shocked to see frost hollows mentioned. That alongside details like the gelding? It's refreshing to see writing that suits the world, not catering to the reader. Also, the writing was amazing in general but I figured you already have been told that plenty lol.

(+4)

The art though! How could I leave without talking about the art! I love the sunken, sketchy look around Marimaite's eyes; it gives such a glaring opposition to Sitri's smoothness and really showcases how they handle their stressful situations.

(+2)

Make it available on Android and my soul is YOURSSSSS

(+1)(-1)

Holy shit this was incredible and I would love more. More of this story, more of these characters, this world, MORE FROM YOU.

(+3)

REALLY GOOD! 10/10!

(+3)

really good

(+3)

I was expecting something shorter and worse written but was pleasantly surprised. Instead I got a captivating story that kept me hooked throughout, Well done.

(+3)

thank you for reading! really appreciate the kind words

THIS GAME MAKES ME SICK AND YOU CAN TELL A SERIAL KILLER WROTE THIS

(+6)

This is one of those remarks that authors put in their official public reception quotations as a mark of pride.

(1 edit) (-7)

YEAH, I CAN TELL U R WHITE........ONLY WHITE PEOPLE THINK SICK SHIT LIKE THAT IS A GOOD THING

(1 edit) (+1)

Highly recommend looking at this persons other comments, funniest shit I've read in a while

omg thank u I got a good laugh out of this lol

(1 edit) (-9)

THIS GAME PISED ME OFF, THE FEMALE KNIGHT IS A PIECE OF CRAP WHO MURDERS PEOPLE AND USES "I WAS JUST FOLLOWING ORDERS" AS AN EXCUSE, YET SHE'S CONTANTLY CALLING THE DEMON EVIL.......IN REAL LIFE, MOST HUMANS ARE NO BETTER THAN THE DEMONS THEY KEEP TELLING US ARE BAD

(+1)

You realize that was like, the point right? There's even an entire scene dedicated to the admittance of that hypocrisy.

(1 edit) (-2)

JUST BECAUSE ITS' THE POINT DOESN'T CHANGE THE FACT THAT MY STATEMENT INDECATES THAT THAT WAS THE POINT AND THAT IT PISSES ME OFF..........I BET U THOUGHT U SOUNDED SMART POINTING OUT THE OBVIOUS BUT U MADE URSELF LOOK STUPID

(+2)

I haven't touched a visual novel in quite a long time, and I am so lucky to find such a diamond in the rough. The characters and the story were so well written, and I feel that the way you explored each little detail and its nuances is so captivating to me! I genuinely could never get enough of both the textual and visual art that was put into this game... UGH I LOVED IT SO MUCH!!! I hope this world you've created garners more well-deserved attention.

I'll be eagerly looking forward to any of your future works, if you choose to do so! LOVE IT OK BYE--- =w=

(+3)

I lied I'm coming back because I also really need to voice my appreciation and adoration for the art cuz HOLY it's so freaking good love love love!!! I quite especially love how red is the only color that really appears visually... pwetty fweaking cool.... and the lineart and expressions were so yummy its like im eating a little cake in a coffee shop because this shit was SCRUMPTIOUS I WAS EATING IT UP ok anyways BYE x2--- x3c

(+3)

hey thank you so much this is such a kind comment ToT

i really appreciate the love and im so glad that my art could make you happy in this way and that you loved the story thank you for telling us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it was really a huge highlight of my year to choose to participate in this and work hard on it and im grateful you enjoyed

(+6)

Genuinely the best visual novel I've read in a very long time. Beautiful writing, beautiful art, a concise story that's wonderfully explored with two phenomenal characters to explore it through. So many times throughout this game I tabbed out just so I could sit with it for a while- I felt like the knight myself, constantly stopping and thinking and getting into my own head about what this or that meant, or how the world could possibly exist the way it does.

I expect I'll be reading it again, even : ) So so wonderfully done, and thank you so much for making it

(+3)

thank you so much for leaving such a kind comment! it makes me really happy to hear that you enjoyed it!

(+3)

I've never felt more heartbroken at reading the final line of a visual novel before. I could have spent weeks in the world that was created for this. Absolutely fantastic writing and characters. I would happily melt.

(+2)

making me want to come back for more... wonderful story and presentation, as well as music choice. really ties everything in a nice little bow. thanks for making this <3 <3

(+1)

thank you, kind reader !!!!

(+5)

OOhhh! OHHHH! Okay... Okay. I enjoyed that a lot. I didn't even take a break to save the game because I was so intent in reading the next line! Was there even a save option? I didn't even checked! I just clicked and clicked!

The surprise representation made me smile so much! I really liked these two and enjoyed the journey from the beginning until the end. The toxicity--the anger, the moments of comforting silence--and many amusing misunderstandings!

However, that Epilogue makes one think and think hard but in the end, their story was wonderful! This was so nice! I really loved the writing and the art. Not to mention, the music was on point!

P.S Can I use our some of the sprites/CG as PF? I'll happily credit of course! I just love the expressions they make! And that one scene, goodness I don't blame you, Marimaite! ♥

(+1)

thank you so much for your kind words and for leaving a review as well!!!! you are welcome to use the art for profile pictures, that's fine with me and i'm very happy you enjoy them <3 <3 thank you again

(+2)

Yay! Thank youuuu!!! ♥♥♥♥

(+3)

This was really wonderful and... actually very sweet! I started off disliking Marimaite, but seeing the way her feelings towards Sitri changed through the story, I grew to like her more and more... there's this great atmosphere of dread throughout, and the way the tension between Marimaite and Sitri resolves by the end really surprised me in a good way...

Also just, Sitri is amazing and how could you NOT fall in love with her <3

(+1)

i had similar feelings about marimaite when we were making the story. i'm really happy that you enjoyed her and sitri, thank you for the comment! !

(+3)

This is my new favourite game. I have not shilled a game this hard since Transistor, and that came out 11 years ago. I don't say this lightly! Without spoiling either, I can only say the comparisons for my perspectives are definitely there, however, melt's storytelling revels in a deepened extrapolation.

The representation in this game fails to disappoint. In fact, it manages to achieve everything but. Tantalizing subtlety laces every chapter, void of neglect, with a delicate balance of scene pacing, art that strikes at the heart when it knows the writing has disarmed you into your most vulnerable state, and a soundtrack perfectly selected to tie in the entire mood, delivering you what was written on the tin: Toxic Yuri. The high degree of illustrated contrasts, fully utilizing the medium of a kinetic novel to the genre's entirety, leave you with a sense of unease... All while luring you into a sense of comfort within your own darkness, one I have never before experienced, yet always knew I craved to know. This is the healthiest-unhealthiest piece of media I have ever consumed, and I am immensely grateful to my past myself for having set aside the time, instead of pushing it off.

It is a work that wields its own twisted, shameful vulnerability as confidence: it spells nothing out. It trusts in its own darkness to shine. Yet with each and every step, it nods along to your subconscious, right from the very start. The prime selection of scenes with Mitri's full illustrations will lead you to believe emotions were painted out through Dooble's words, though upon second read, I realized the immersion 「melt」 clutches you in just seeps that deep. The push, the pull, every emotion is depicted in manner so ethereal; it wraps your mind with an unspeakably eerie comfort.

There is only one word that can describe why it encapsulates this genre so perfectly: Duality. The epilogue will make certain you the emotion brands itself into your soul for a long time to come.

Play melt. If you are lost in life, or have ever been, play melt. If you are holding onto inherited shame, play melt. If all you have known are the wrong crowd, if you wish to be guided towards finding the right company: Play. melt.

It will be worth every ounce of your psyche and emotion. I'll be impressed if you even manage to put it down halfway, willingly!

To think this was crafted within the span of six weeks, piercing through even a intense creative block, and yet the duo still came away with an undeniable masterpiece. I won't say it is your magnum opus, but I sure as hell look forward to the day I get to experience such... You both now have another newly devoted fan. The world needs your work. And I will be there to make sure they know of it. Thank you both, for creating.

Now stop reading this review, and go PLAY MELT! ❤️🗡️🩸

Wonderful story, Wonderful character design, Wonderful world building. I genuinely can't rave enough about how well put together and beautiful this story was. Good work to everyone who worked on it and thank you for such a delightful read <3!

(P.S. May I be allowed to use one of the sprites as a pfp? Completely okay if not!)

(+1)

thank you so so much for your kind words

yes, you can use as a profile picture! im honored!

(+4)

I'm not a massive VN enjoyer, but this was just peak. I got pulled in so much that I read through the entire thing in one sitting, which caught me a little bit by surprise.

I really liked how you explored Marimaite's internal conflict, her shifting relationship with Sitri throughout the story was very fun to experience. The ending also blew me away, the sudden switch from "it's so over" to "we are so back" was pulled off perfectly. The whole thing was an emotional roller coaster.

I also loved the art direction! The sprites had so much soul and expression. The designs were fantastic (cute!!!), and the contrast between the two main characters worked very well! I also enjoyed all the backgrounds and little environmental effects, they made me so much more immersed in the story.

Overall, every component of this VN, the writing, the art, the music, the sound and visual effects, felt so deliberate and made the experience very cohesive and engaging. It's super impressive how much you two managed to achieve with so little time! I'll surely be looking forward to your future projects, great job!

(+3)

Where do I even begin?  I adored absolutely everything about this VN from start to finish!  The art for both the backgrounds and the main girls alike was all so stylish and expressive—and speaking of expressive, I loooooved how many different expressions there were for Marimaite (I keep wanting to write her name as "Marmite") and Sitri's portraits, and how evocative they were, heheheh~

And the writing!  The way these girls went from being at each other's throats (hateful & slightly sexual) to being at each other's throats (all sexual) was marvelous to see~  What's more, both girls have vivid, distinct personalities, and the larger setting is fleshed out just enough without bogging down the flow of the narrative, which I find very impressive~

I could absolutely go on raving about this VN—the music; the visual presentation; the little ghostings of fog from the girls' mouths during the snowy scenes—but I believe I've made my point, heheheheh.  Fantastic work across the board~!

P.S.: God help me, I'm so fucking weak for Sitri...

(+1)

<3 <3 <3 <3

thank you so much kyou, im really so happy to hear how much you enjoyed it. it means a lot to receive your thoughtful words like this!!!!

(+4)

wonderful atmosphere and beautiful conflict. i really adored the music and art and just how the two got all tangled up together

thank you so much for the kind comment nadia, i really appreciate it ! ! ! ! im really glad we decided to participate in this as our first jam, its been really rewarding to hear everyones thoughts.

(+3)

Really great art and character relationships. The atmosphere is absolutely fantastic!

thank you kastel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! orz

(+3)

absolutely incredible thank you making this. i fuck w this So Hard i am sick in the head and i WILL be thinking about it for a while to come. was captivated the entire time. love these characters, love the art. it's Peak

thank YOU for this kind comment!!!! im so so happy you enjoyed it <3 <3

(+3)

This was soooooo cute—I really liked the gestural style of the backgrounds and Marimaite and Sitri’s facial expressions are just really cute and full of character. The UI is really simple but I liked the flourishes of the little flame graphic as the next-page icon, and the fact that the only thing not in black-and-white is demons with their signature colors. It’s very evocative of demons being out of joint with the world and kind of uncanny. Also, incredible music choices.

Also Marimaite and Sitri’s dynamic is just really charming to me. My #1 favorite is when fictional women are mean to each other and this was really peak as they do the will-they-or-won’t-they (kill each other) dance. Great work!

im really happy to receive your comments on this!!!! i had a lot of fun thinking of how i wanted everything to be displayed. it means a lot to me that you enjoyed it so much!

(+4)

I was so utterly enthralled reading this, from the beginning was drawn right into Marimaites head, captivated with every emotion she felt, the dynamic between her and the demon was so interesting to watch unfold and I loved the exploration of how demons work, and think in this world, wanting to learn so much more about this world just from the glimpse shown.

The artstyle was perfect for the atmosphere of the writing so well, and the sprites brought to life the colourful dialogue, with a really fitting ost and ui.

I feel like this game and especially it's ending will be stuck in my brain for a while.

thank you so much for this comment rainy TT <3 <3 youre really the best

(+3)

Really enjoyed this VN, some nights I yearn for a particular atmosphere in toxic yuri, and Melt hit the mark perfectly... Can see myself revisiting this work over and over lol

thank you so much!!!!

(+4)

A wonderful duet of art and writing so perfectly in harmony with one another to create something suffocating beyond words. Every sprite a masterpiece, every word deliberate, every scene thrilling;  among some of the great short visual novels there is to experience.

To not repeat the perfectly descriptive words of mindmaster's review, I'll gloss over the radiant quality of the work. Instead I found very interesting the take on the human-demon dualism and how it seemed to stray somewhat from genre conventions, giving it a fresh feeling on top of the brilliant execution.

There is nothing to critique, it is practically a perfect work. I look forward to future projects from the both of you, especially if they are collaborations such as this one.

Thank you for such high praise, I don't even know what to say!

(+4)

a cortex shattering experience from start to end

Like a pinhole camera, through so little an entire world squeezes through and floods me with rich emotions. I love the dynamic between the main character and the love interest, the social and cultural boundaries that exist to divide them, and therefore proof of their pull together as the story progresses

Every paragraph feels like it's brimming with extra meaning, and pregnant with quadruplets. My imagination is continually pulled into the subtext, the negative space your words outline pulling me beyond the kayfabe event horizon.

If the words are that powerful alone, my remaining senses were unprepared. The art, UI, sound design, all like a vietnamese sandwich, expotentially greater than its parts.

I admire the work, and would be looking forwards to what you have next to share

(+1)

This comment made me so incredibly happy to read! It's just so evocative and fun and aaaa? I'm so glad you enjoyed melt, and my legion of future grandchildren sentences.

(+4)

I couldn't help myself and read the entirety of Melt in one sitting.

I enjoyed it a great deal and the tension felt just right throughout the novel. The music and sfx that accompanied the reading never felt distracting or annoying, but enhanced the reading experience altogether. Considering the game was made in such a short time, it's honestly stellar. If you have the mind to expand upon it, including an intro to set the stakes of the binding pact could be really impactful for us readers, I imagine!

If there is one detail I must scrutinize, it is the fact that we did not get a scene involving tail-pulling, which must be noted as a most delightful trope of the genre. Else, I am tremendously satisfied with the product. :)

That's a good point about better introducing the binding, I think that could have been helpful. There aren't plans to continue or especially revise this; the 1.1 and 1.2 patches were just fixing things that should have been there the whole time. But this feedback is definitely something to keep in mind if we do, and to consider for the next thing I write.

Also oh my goodness you're right how did I overlook the need for a tail pulling scene? My status as a rank amateur finally shows through...! But in seriousness, I'm glad you liked it!

(+2)

very emotionally charged vn
the gradual progression as the mc tackles her emotions till the final climax of it is very yummy
really enjoyed the dichotomy between the two characters sprites as well, both were very fun to look at!
also the ending had me breathless...

(+1)

I'm glad the emotional arc of things comes across as well as it does!

(+3)

Cute cute cute!

The art is super cute, the story is super compelling and well paced, the characters are very appealing, and the soundtrack is eerily fitting~ Aces all around!

thankyouthankyoutahnkyhotuauhgthouagshfdjbg

I'm really glad you like it! And yeah, I think mitri really found just the perfect album to use for the soundtrack.
